Baltimore railroad

1827 – The first commercial railroad in US, Baltimore & Ohio was chartered. The B&O was initially planned to transport freight and passengers between the port of Baltimore, Maryland, and the Ohio River.

National Woman's Day

1909 – First National Woman’s Day was observed in the United States. Organized by the Socialist Party of America in honor of the 1908 garment workers’ strike in New York, where women protested against working conditions. The event was later adopted by the international socialist movement and became known as International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8th each year.

1940 – First televised basketball game. It was a college basketball game between the University of Pittsburgh and Fordham University, held at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
