What happened in history on November 1st?
1512 – Michelangelo’s paintings on ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican first exhibited. The Sistine Chapel is one of the most famous and iconic landmarks located within the Vatican City. The ceiling was painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512 and features scenes from the Book of Genesis, including the iconic “Creation of Adam”.
1931 – DuPont announced to the world they have come up with a new substance that is a Synthetic rubber called DuPrene.
1950 – Celtics’ forward Chuck Cooper becomes first African American to play in the NBA. He played for the Boston Celtics from 1950 to 1954 and later played for the Milwaukee Hawks (now the Atlanta Hawks) and the Fort Wayne Pistons (later the Detroit Pistons) before retiring from professional basketball in 1956.
1957 – The Mackinac Straits Bridge, commonly known as the Mackinac Bridge, world longest suspension bridge between anchorages opens. It is one of the most iconic landmarks in the state of Michigan.
