1377 – Foundation stone laid for Ulm Minster, also known as Ulm Cathedra in Ulm, Germany. The construction of the cathedral continued for several centuries, with various interruptions. 1859 – French acrobat Charles Blondin is first to cross Niagara Falls on a tightrope. He became famous for his daring tightrope walks across the Niagara Gorge, captivating audiences with his incredible feats of balance and skill.
1894 – The London Tower Bridge was officially opened. Construction of the bridge began in 1886 and took approximately eight years to complete. The bridge, an iconic symbol of London, spans the River Thames and is a combined bascule and suspension bridge, designed to allow both road and river traffic to pass through.
1925 – Charles Francis Jenkins was granted the U.S. patent for “Transmitting Pictures over Wireless”. Jenkins was an American inventor and pioneer in early television technology. His patent, number 1,544,156, described a method for transmitting images wirelessly using radio waves.

1937 – The world’s first emergency call telephone service was launched in London, United Kingdom. It was established by the London Metropolitan Police and was known as the “999” emergency number. 1953 – The first Chevrolet Corvette was manufactured in Flint, Michigan, United States. The car was introduced as a concept vehicle at the General Motors Motorama show in New York City. Due to its positive reception, General Motors decided to put the Corvette into production, making it the first mass-produced American sports car.
1987 – The Royal Canadian Mint introduced the $1 coin, commonly known as the “loonie”. The coin features a common loon, a bird native to Canada, on its reverse side, which is why it acquired its popular nickname.
