Robert Forster – 1941 – an American actor best known for his role in the film “Jackie Brown”. He appeared in over 100 films and television shows such as, “Ironside,” “The Mod Squad,” “Breaking Bad,” “Twin Peaks” and “Last Man Standing”. He also acted in several films, including “Reflections in a Golden Eye”, “Mulholland Drive” and “The Descendants”.

Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford – 1942 – an American actor, best known for his roles in the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” film series. In addition to his work in these franchises, Ford has appeared in numerous other films, including “Blade Runner”, “Witness” and “The Fugitive”.

Ernő Rubik

Ernő Rubik – 1944 – a Hungarian inventor and professor of architecture, best known as the inventor of the Rubik’s Cube. Rubik created the Rubik’s Cube in 1974, as a tool to help his architecture students better understand spatial relationships. In addition to the Rubik’s Cube, Rubik has created other puzzles and games, including Rubik’s Magic and Rubik’s Snake.

Richard "Cheech" Marin

Richard “Cheech” Marin – 1946 – an American actor, known as one half of the comedy duo Cheech & Chong, which he formed with Tommy Chong in the 1970s. The pair released several successful films, including “Up in Smoke”, “Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie” and “Still Smokin”. Marin has also appeared in movies “Born in East L.A.”, “Desperado” and “Tin Cup”.

Daphne Maxwell Reid

Daphne Maxwell Reid – 1948 – an American actress, best known for her role as Aunt Vivian Banks on the hit sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. She had also appeared in numerous other television shows, including “Hill Street Blues,” “Frank’s Place,” and “Sesame Street.”

Didi Conn

Didi Conn – 1951 – an American actress, best known for her role as Frenchy in the hit musical film “Grease”. She has also appeared in numerous other films and television shows, including “You Light Up My Life”, “Shining Time Station” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”.

Danitra Vance

Danitra Vance – 1954 – an American actress and comedian, best known for her work as a cast member on the comedy show “Saturday Night Live”. She was the first African American woman to join the show’s cast. Vance also appeared in several films and television shows, including “Jumpin’ at the Boneyard”, “The War of the Roses” and “The Cosby Show”.

Michael Spinks

Michael Spinks – 1956 – an American professional boxer, best known for his achievements as a light heavyweight and heavyweight champion of the world by defeating Larry Holmes in 1985. He won a gold medal in boxing at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.

Cameron Crowe

What happened in history on July 13th?

John Ruggles

1836 – U.S. Patent No. 1 issued to John Ruggles for his invention of a traction wheel for steam locomotives. This patent was one of the first granted under the new patent system established by the Patent Act of 1836, which required patent applications to be examined and granted by a board of patent examiners.

Queen Victoria

1837 – Queen Victoria moved to Buckingham Palace. She was only 18 years old at the time and had been living at Kensington Palace with her mother, the Duchess of Kent. Buckingham Palace had been the official residence of the monarch since 1837, although it was not until the reign of Queen Victoria that it became the primary royal residence.

1871 – The world’s first championship cat show was held in the Crystal Palace in London, England. The show was organized by Harrison Weir, who is known as the “father of the cat fancy.” Weir was a prominent cat breeder and author who worked to establish cat shows as a way to promote the breeding of purebred cats.

Virgin Mary

1917 – The first Vision of the Virgin Mary appeared to three children – Lucia Santos, Jacinta Marto, and Francisco Marto – in the Cova da Iria fields near Fatima, Portugal. The children reported seeing a lady dressed in white who told them to come back to the same spot on the 13th day of the following five months. The Virgin Mary appeared to the children on each of these occasions, and the events are known collectively as the “Marian apparitions” or the “Our Lady of Fatima” apparitions.

Hollywood Sign

1923 – The Hollywood Sign was officially dedicated in the hills above Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. Originally intended as an advertisement for a local real estate development called “Hollywoodland,” the sign has since become an iconic symbol of the American film industry and the city of Los Angeles.

World Cup

1930 – The first-ever football World Cup held in Uruguay. The tournament was organized by FIFA and was contested by 13 teams from around the world. The host country, Uruguay, emerged as the champions, defeating Argentina 4-2 in the final.

Frank Sinatra

1939 – Frank Sinatra made his recording debut. He recorded “From the Bottom of My Heart” and “Melancholy Mood” with Harry James and his Orchestra. Sinatra went on to become one of the most successful and influential singers in the history of American popular music, with a career that spanned over six decades.

Walter Poenisch

1978 – Walter Poenisch started his swim from Cuba to Florida. Poenisch was a 65-year-old retired truck driver from Ohio and he became the first person ever to swim from Havana, Cuba, to the Florida Keys without a shark cage. He reached the Florida coast 34 hours and 15 minutes after starting his swim, covering a distance of approximately 128 miles (206 kilometers).

Live Aid

1985 – The “Live Aid” concerts held in London, England, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. The concerts were organized to raise money for famine relief in Africa. It featured some of the biggest musical acts of the time, including Queen, U2, David Bowie, Elton John and many others.

InBev

2008 – InBev agreed to buy Anheuser-Busch. The Belgian-Brazilian brewing company announced its intention to acquire the iconic American beer maker, Anheuser-Busch, in a deal worth approximately $52 billion. The acquisition made InBev the largest beer maker in the world and gave it control of popular American beer brands such as Budweiser and Michelob.
