Lily Tomlin – 1939 – an American actress, best known for her performance in film “Nashville”. Tomlin received Emmy Awards for her portrayal of the character Frankie Bergstein in the series “Grace and Frankie”.
Don Stroud – 1943 – an American actor known for his work in several notable films, including “Coogan’s Bluff”, “The Amityville Horror” and “Madigan”. He also appeared in popular TV series like “The Mod Squad,” “The Streets of San Francisco” and “Charlie’s Angels”.
Barry Gibb – 1946 – a British musician who is best known as one of the founding members of the iconic pop group the Bee Gees. Along with his younger brothers Robin and Maurice, Barry Gibb formed the Bee Gees in the late 1950s. 1897 – The first subway system in the United States, also known as the Tremont Street Subway, officially opened in Boston. The Boston subway was initially a trolley tunnel that ran beneath Tremont Street in Boston, Massachusetts.
1939 – World War II began, when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. World War II lasted until September 2, 1945, when Japan formally surrendered, following the dropping of atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
1980 – Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope came to the end in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He began his marathon in St. John’s, Newfoundland, on April 12, 1980, with the goal of running a marathon’s distance every day. Fox was forced to end his run, after covering approximately 3,339 miles (5,373 kilometers), due to significant health problems and complications related to his ongoing battle with cancer.
1985 – US-French expedition discovered wreckage of Titanic. The shipwreck was located about 12,500 feet (nearly 2.5 miles) below the surface of the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately 370 miles off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
2015 – Google changed its logo and branding. The new logo was designed to be more mobile-friendly, reflecting Google’s focus on its mobile and cloud services. The change was part of a broader rebranding effort to represent the company’s evolution beyond its search engine roots.
