Ange-Jacques Gabriel – 1698 – a prominent French architect, recognized as one of the leading figures in neoclassical architecture during the reigns of Louis XV and Louis XVI. Gertrude Ederle – 1905 – an American competitive swimmer, best known for becoming the first woman to successfully swim across the English Channel, achieving this feat on August 6, 1926. She swam from France to England in 14 hours and 34 minutes, breaking the previous record held by a man by nearly two hours. Ederle also competed in the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, where she won three medals: a gold and two bronze.

Hayden Rorke – 1910 – an American actor, best known for his role as Dr. Alfred Bellows on the classic television sitcom “I Dream of Jeannie”. He also appeared in numerous films, including “An American in Paris”, “Project Moonbase”, “The Eternal Sea”, “When Worlds Collide” and “The Night Walker”.

Pele – 1940 – born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, widely regarded as one of the greatest football (soccer) players of all time. He is best known for his time with the Brazilian national team, with whom he won three FIFA World Cup titles (1958, 1962, and 1970). Over his career, he scored more than 1,000 goals, making him one of the top goal-scorers in the history of the sport.

Anita Roddick – 1942 – a British businesswoman and the founder of The Body Shop, a globally recognized ethical beauty brand. She opened the first Body Shop store in 1976 in Brighton, England. The company campaigned against animal testing and was one of the first major companies to adopt recycling and minimal packaging practices.

Ang Lee – 1954 – a Taiwanese-born film director, screenwriter and producer.
