1784 – The United States Army was officially established by the Congress of the Confederation.
1965 – The first US spacewalk, also known as an Extravehicular Activity (EVA), was made by NASA astronaut Edward White. During the Gemini 4 mission, White conducted a 23-minute spacewalk, becoming the first American to float in space.
1969 – The last episode of the original “Star Trek” series aired on NBC. The episode was titled “Turnabout Intruder” and was the 24th and final episode of the third season.
1985 – “Larry King Live” debuted on CNN, with then-Governor of New York Mario Cuomo as King’s first guest. The show became one of CNN’s longest-running and most-watched programs.
