1853 – Cincinnati Ohio becomes the first U.S. city to employ full-time, professional firefighters. Prior to this, firefighting was primarily a volunteer-based system, with citizens coming together to form fire companies and responding to fires on a voluntary basis.
1891 – The Wrigley Company is founded by William Wrigley Jr. in Chicago Illinois. Wrigley’s most iconic product is “Juicy Fruit”. Other popular chewing gum brands include “Spearmint,” “Doublemint” and “Big Red.”
1924 – The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) was officially formed. Prior to this date, aviation in Canada was under the control of the Canadian Air Force (CAF), which was established in 1920.
