Alfred Nobel

1895 – Alfred Nobel signed his will establishing the Nobel Prize. In his will, Nobel, the Swedish inventor and industrialist (most famous for inventing dynamite), allocated the majority of his fortune to create the prizes. The Nobel Prizes were first awarded in 1901, five years after his death in 1896, as it took time to organize the trust and the awarding bodies.
